CIBJO president discusses development of Armenian jewellery industry with senior government officials and the AJA leadership in Yerevan

YEREVAN, ARMENIA: OCTOBER 30, 2012 – CIBJO President Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri has discussed the development of the jewellery sector in the Republic of Armenia, with senior officials of the Armenian government and with the leadership of the Armenian Jewellers’ Association (AJA) during a visit to the country’s capital of Yerevan.

Dr. Cavalieri is in Armenia to attend the 2012 edition of the Yerevan International Jewellery Show, which opened yesterday and will run through October 31.

Together with AJA President Gagik Gevorkyan, Dr. Cavalieri met yesterday with Armenian President Serzh Azati Sargsyan, and today with the country’s Prime Minister, Tigran Sargsyan; Minister of the Economy, Tigran Davtyan; and Minister of the Diaspora, Hranush Hakobyan. He pledged CIBJO’s support for the growth of the jewellery industry and market in Armenia.

In a keynote address he delivered at the show, Dr. Cavalieri paid tribute to the work being done in Armenia by AJA and to the special contribution being provided by members of the Armenian community in other parts of the world.

“My congratulations go out to the Armenian Jewellers’ Association, and to the excellent work that they are doing in promoting their industry internationally, and the jewellery culture in general in their own country,” he said. “As an Italian, I know what is like to like to be associated jewellery simply by virtue of my nationality. But we are not alone, of course. The Armenian diaspora is known the world over in the jewellery community, and over the years I have made many friends from it, some of whom are here today. I pleased that, finally, I am able to experience the real Armenia.”
