At the Angul plant of the Indian steel producer Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL), a single-strand continuous casting machine from Siemens Metals Technologies commenced operation in August. The caster has a designed annual capacity of 1.5 million metric tons of slabs. It produces a broad range of grades that extends from ultra-low-carbon (ULC) to high-carbon (HC) steels and also encompasses microalloyed and low-alloy steel grades. One focus is on production of primary material for sheet metal and tube grades on a wide strip mill also supplied by Siemens.
