Daicel-Evonik Ltd. (headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; president: Tadashi Kanai) has developed a new holographic composite sheet by compounding elastomeric grades of DAIAMID Ⓡ, a 12-nylon-resin, and hologram polyurethane films from Murata Kimpaku group(headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; and Abeno-ku, Osaka; president : Jun Murata) with vacuum-molding by Daicel Pack Systems Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku,Tokyo; president: Takashi Kondo).
Conventional hologram designs have been used for coloring or plating after a special shape has been formed on a surface. However, since they are weak in tension and crack easily, they cannot be used with elastic materials and have been used only for limited purposes. Additionally, holographic polyurethane film itself is too soft to be molded.
Now,by compounding with DAIAMID ®, the toughness of holographically decorated sheets can be increased so that cracking and peeling are less likelyto occur and a wider range of outstanding designs are now possible. Uneven 3D surface designs can also be applied due to the design flexibility possible with vacuum molding. Since a hologram composite sheet using a DAIAMID Ⓡ isflexible and tough, even at a thickness of 0.3 mm, the composite sheet is compatible with products for which hologram design has not been applied untilnow.
