After 32 years, the Japanese carmaker Nissan has renewed its low cost car brand, Datsun. The first Datsun car, Go hatchback will be launched by Nissan by early 2014 to strengthen its presence in the developing nations. Its pre-launch test runs are in progress in Chennai. Datsun Go will share most of its components with the Nissan Micra hatchback. The modifications done to this vehicle is in its length and interiors. The hatchback will be competing with other players in the same segment like the Alto K 10, Hyundai Eon and some others. Datsun Go is longer than the previous Nissan Micra models and the interiors are more spacious. The price range of the new Datsun Go is Rs 3 lakh- 4 lakh.
The petrol engine of Datsun Go is the same as that of the Micra. This four wheeler will have a DOHC (dual overhead cam shaft) 1.2 liter petrol engine. This engine is three cylinder and 12 valved with an engine displacement of 1198cc. The maximum power output churned out by this engine is 67 bhp at 5000 rpm and the maximum torque output produced at the same time is 104 Nm at 4000 rpm. The engine is equipped with a five speed manual transmission gearbox and will be offered with a front wheel drive option. The average fuel efficiency of Datsun Go has been improved from the previous models. It is expected to return a healthy fuel economy of 19 kmpl to 20 kmpl. The fuel efficiency of this vehicle is improved from the carmaker’s previous models due to its lightweight body. The hatchback will also be equipped with a proficient fuel supply system which will, in turn, boost the fuel efficiency of this vehicle. The top speed of the vehicle is almost 150 to 160 kmph. The new Datsun Go will also be able to accelerate upto 100 kmph from the standstill in about 15 to 16 seconds, which is quite impressive.
Coming to the exteriors of this hatchback, the exterior of this car, especially the frontage provides the buyers with a premium feel and is a visual treat to them. With this price range, the exterior of this car, whether it is the front part or the rear profile, is awesome. The frontage has a large perforated radiator grille with chrome garnished outline. The middle of the grille carries the Datsun logo. The headlight cluster design looks very stylish with sharp edges and is further incorporated with the side turn indicator. The front radiator grille looks classy because of the straight lines deigned on the bonnet. It has a sporty designer bumper at the bottom which is incorporated with an air dam and air ducts. The side profile looks classy with edgy frontage and curvy rear profile. The body colored bumper and stylish tail lamp cluster at the rear also gives it an attractive look. The length of the car is 3785mm, the width being 1635mm and the height is about 1485mm.
Talking about the interiors, the interior design is simple and decent and has a spacious cabin with the seating capacity of five passengers. The seats are also wide and spacious to provide better comfort to people seated inside the car. To provide a better look, the seats are covered with premium fabric upholstery. The other features which the interior of this car is offered with are the manual air conditioner, power windows, a power assisted steering wheel, a stylish instrument cluster with speedometer, a music player, fuel indicator and a few other notification and warning lamps. The dashboard is also incorporated with a storage compartment, and a provision for installing speakers has been offered to the door trims. The audio system inside the car also includes a USB interface along with a remote control; Aux-in port and four speakers (2 front and 2 rear) along with a roof antenna for FM radio. The buyers are also provided with an option to integrate some accessories at an additional cost, which include sporty rear spoiler, stickers and decals, premium seat covers for all the seats, side profile graphics, mud flaps, internal carpets made of rubber or other mats. The wheelbase of this car is 2450mm.
Overall, this yet to be launched hatchback is very attractive and reasonable in this price range and has all the potential to attract the customer very well.
