Ramat Gan, Israel — July 27, 2014: David Gavin, president of the Diamond Bourse of Canada (DBC) will participate in the International Diamond Week to be held September 1-4, at the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE). Gavin will be accompanied by several members of the Canadian bourse, and it will be his first visit to Israel as the Canadian bourse president.
IDE President Shmuel Schnitzer said he and the IDE board looked forward to welcoming Gavin to the bourse. “Earlier this summer, during the 36th World Diamond Congress in Antwerp, the Diamond Bourse of Canada was accepted into the ranks of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses. This is an important milestone as Canada is not only an important diamond producing country, but with the bourse located in Toronto, it will also serve an important distribution hub for polished goods for Canada itself and possibly the northern, bordering states of the USA.
In Antwerp, the Diamond Bourse of Canada was accepted into the WFDB together with the Korea Diamond Bourse, bringing the number of WFDB-affiliated bourses to 30. “This is a great achievement,” said Shmuel Schnitzer, who is also an Honorary WFDB President. “And we are looking forward to exploring ways to cooperate closely with the Canadian bourse, as our members are always looking to improve their networking strength and build new business relationships. The visit of the DBC members in September will be a very good start toward that goal,” he added.
As in previous editions of the International Diamond Week, qualified and confirmed buyers will be offered up to four free hotel nights in the designated venue hotels. “We have booked rooms at several hotels close to the Ramat Gan diamond exchange complex,” said Moti Besser, the IDE’s general manager. “They will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, and therefore, we urge interested buyers to register quickly and not to wait.”
The September show will also feature an exclusive polished diamond auction by the Rapaport Group. Meanwhile, negotiations are also taking place with other partners for the organization of additional, value-adding events during the week.
