Picture taken by Michael Schumacher raises £2,500
The pictures were sold by international auctioneers Coys for the second Zoom charity picture sale at the InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel on February 7th. It was a star studded evening with British racing legend Damon Hill, Red Bull team principal Chris Horner, TV presenter Suzi Perry and F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone in the room.
They all joined auctioneer Chris Routledge on the stand to help raise funds when their pictures were sold but it was Bernie who put on a great show when he got involved in fierce bidding for his own photograph against a gentleman in the room. In the end, Bernie won the bidding race and got the picture for £2,500.
The auction also featured an image of a boat on a lake taken from a train by one of the world’s greatest drivers, Michael Schumacher, which sold for £2,500. Other lots for sale included Fernando Alonso’s podium shot of the Monza crowd, Nico Rosberg at the wheel of a 1938 W154 Mercedes-Benz and other images from Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber in his final season.
COYS Managing Director, Chris Routledge, said: “It was an overwhelming night with some of the greatest stars of F1. Being in the same room with Damon Hill, Chris Horner, Suzi Perry and Bernie Ecclestone was a fantastic experience for the noblest cause, the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.”
All pictures were signed and taken throughout the 2013 season by the drivers and team principals themselves.
Also among the lots were seven Nikon COOLPIX S99500 cameras that have been signed by Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve, John Surtees, Alain Prost and Sir Jackie Stewart.
The picture sale continues online with some more images and cameras that were held back. All remaining lots can be seen here: http://www.coys-zoom.co.uk/
