The Union Finance Minister Shri P. Chidambaram will leave for one week two nation tour to Canada and USA on the early morning tomorrow i.e. Sunday,14th April, 2013. In the first leg of his journey, the Finance Minister Shri Chidambaram will visit Canada. He will reach Toronto on 14th April, 2013. At Toronto, the Finance Minister will address the Canadian-Indian Business Council next day i.e. Monday, 15th April, 2013. Later he will also hold a Round Table Meeting with Canadian Council of Chief Executives in which about 15-20 CEOs of major Canadian companies are likely to participate. In the afternoon, the Finance Minister Shri Chidambaram will leave for Ottawa and meet his Canadian counterpart, Hon James Flaherty there. Later, the Finance Minister will also meet there Mr. Mark Carney, Governor, Bank of Canada.
In the second leg of his foreign tour, the Finance Minister Shri Chidambaram will reach Boston, USA on 16th April, 2013. He will deliver an address on the theme of “Rise of the East: Implications for the Global Economy” at Harvard University on the same day. He will also engage in open discussion with audience beside interacting with faculty and students of Harvard University. Thereafter, the Finance Minister will address about 100 leading SWFs/PFs/University Endowments/Insurance Funds among others. In the evening, the Finance Minister Shri Chidambaram will leave for New York, USA.
On 17th April, 2013, the Finance Minister Shri Chidambaram will address about 150 SWFs/PFs/University Endowments/Insurance Funds in New York. Thereafter, he will have a Luncheon Meeting with the Members of US-India Business Council (USIBC). Later, he will also hold one to one meeting with the President and CEOs of leading US companies.
In the last leg of his foreign visit, the Finance Minister Shri Chidambaram will reach Washington D.C. on 18th April, 2013 to participate in World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings. He will participate among others in IMFC Plenary Meeting and Development Committee Meeting. The Finance Minister will also attend G-20 Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting being held on the sidelines of IMF-WB Meetings. Shri Chidambaram will also hold bilateral meetings during his stay in Washington D.C. Among others, he will hold bilateral with US Treasury Secretary Mr. Jack Lew. The Finance Minister Shri Chidambaram will also participate in an event at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington.
. The Finance Minister will leave for the back home on 20th April, 2013 and will arrive in the national capital on the early morning of 22nd April, 2013.
