The marathon commences from the police grounds on Fergusson College Road at 5.40 am. There were three race categories – 3 km, 5 km, 10 km and a half marathon (21 km). Each participant who finished the race was awarded with a medal.
“Finolex as a company has always been working towards the betterment of the society and has also undertaken various initiatives in this regards. Through Mukul Madhav Foundation, the company has been implementing various CSR activities under health, education and women empowerment sectors. In order, to spread awareness and educate women about breast cancer, Finolex has been supporting this marathon for the past four years“said, Mr. Prakash Chhabria, Chairman, Finolex Industries Ltd.
On this important issue of society on “Breast Cancer Awareness”, Finolex Industries has already started an online campaign known as #CaringWithFinolex. Through this online campaign individuals can give a message on/for breast cancer on their social media accounts by using the hashtag #BreastCancerAwareness and #FitWithFinolex. The campaign initiated by the company was trending at No.2 on twitter, receiving the messages not only from India but also from other countries like Germany, United Kingdom, USA, South Africa and Malaysia. After the event all the messages will be compiled and shared with breast cancer patients through greeting cards, which will be served as letters of hope.
“It has become very important for every women in our society to understand and detect the symptoms of breast cancer at an early stage. The early the detection, higher chances of it getting cured. It is also important for every individual to stay fit and take care of their health in today’s time, and I feel obliged to be the part of this marathon and spread the message amongst the people of Pune to stay healthy and fit,” exclaimed Mrs. Ritu Chhabria, Managing Trustee, Mukul Madhav Foundation
“This is the fourth edition of Our Marathon that took place this year. “There has been an extreme benevolence gesture from Finolex Industries Limited in support of this cause of Marathon in creating awareness of the disease and early detection so as to reduce the mortality and morbidity this disease causes”, says Dr. Koppikar from Prashanti Cancer Care Mission.
In India, normally women feel embarrassed about sharing their views of the most personal things. This creates hurdles in diagnosing breast cancer at early stage. But if they come out sharing the things freely, the death risk in breast cancer cases can be reduced; at least we can avoid amputation of affected breast. So women should speak out first, said Bollywood actress Kajol.
Kajol further added that, the awareness about this lethal disease has to be accelerated at a large scale, as this campaign is doing. We need to have focus on saving life of a woman and as far as possible avoid the ugly breast amputation. The technology and treatment pattern has new dimensions and hence we should help ease the life of the breast-cancer victim.
There was a ‘Wall Of Hope’ at the venue, where people shared their encouraging messages for the breast cancer patients.
Mascot of Finolex was a great attraction and motivation as it was seen motivating the participants by running along with them. Running was not the only thing at Our Marathon. To spread the message of fitness, Finolex Industries had created an open space gym where a team expert was demonstrating and displaying tutorials on doing certain exercises like squats, dislocates, dead lifts, shoulder press, push press and stretches by using a simple PVC pipe. The open space gym was built to convey how one can stay fit by working out using handy and simple gears like pipes.
Finolex will be hosting the second contest on 4th February on the World Cancer Day.
