Mumbai, June 19, 2015: Tackling the current trends and issues relevant to developing the prospects of supply chain in India, the second edition of the ET Edge Supply Chain Management & Logistics Summit 2015 has explored new opportunities on “Streamlining Supply Chain Process” within this growing economy that boasts to be the 5th largest supply chain network of the world. With participation from distinguished thought leaders from the industry, the forum has yet again been a promising platform for discussions and exchange of ideas on key aspects. The keynote address by Shri Kalraj Mishra, Hon’ble minister of MSME, Govt. of India, provided critical insights at the summit and his views were, “Make in India is a commitment, not a slogan, to boosting the spirit of entrepreneurship. Skill development has to be given a boost for this across the nation and once this happens, innovation and opportunities will be aplenty in the tiniest of villages as well. We have the potential to be the best even in a global marketplace and the Economic Times Supply Chain Management & Logistics Summit is a step in that direction.”

R S Subramanian, SVP & Country Manager, DHL Express India said, “In the last decade or so we have seen severe constraints in airport infrastructure on the cargo side. For us, every delay is criminal. The big liberalization in ports has not made as much of a difference on the cargo side either. We need facilities that allow for efficiency. Our customers are at the cutting edge of doing e-commerce, but the enablers actually doing the last mile and who need to drive the industry are still working on manual mode.”

After the summit, Shri Anant Geete, Hon’be Minister Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises acknowledged the efforts of the Hon’ble Ministers of Transport Shri Diwakar Raote, Govt. of Maharashtra, Ramalinga Reddy, Govt. of Karnataka, Vijaykumar Rupani, Govt. of Gujarat & G S Bali, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh. Followed by the recognising the various industries part of the SCM Sector – Pharma, Heavy industries, E-comm, retail etc.
The Chief Guest of the felicitation ceremony was Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, talking about the logistics and supply chain sector he said, “The key to success for the ‘Make in India’ plan is a developed logistics and supply chain management system that will support the growth of the economy. Owing to India’s demography and young population along with a strong infrastructure and SCM, there is a huge potential to make the country a global factory hub for manufacturing. In Maharashtra, we are currently working on infrastructure and will be soon coming up with the biggest port after 30 years in Dahanu. Constant efforts are being streamlined to develop new logistics hubs across the state with the help of private sector and the Govt. of India and SCM & Logistics are integral for the State’s development plans for a seamless network. The summit dialogue today has been encouraging and we hope to make strong partnerships that will help us realise our common dream of a developed India by the year 2020.”
