A new monograph features works from the Golda and Meyer Marks Collection, the largest CoBrA art collection in the United States

Born as an art collective in 1948 in the aftermath of World War II, CoBrA was named for its artists’ home cities (Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam) and known for its raw dynamism and abstract and semiabstract forms. Its artists worked together and often collaborated before going their separate ways in 1951, and their movement deeply shaped the development of European modern art as well as contemporary art in Europe and in the United States.

The study of the CoBrA art movement has influenced understanding of the ways in which acts of resistance and political movements continue to influence current world events. Now out from Skira Editore, a new monograph catalogues the collection of Golda and Meyer Marks at the NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale, Florida: the largest CoBrA art collection in the United States.

Published on the 60th anniversary of the museum’s founding, the book’s release also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the founding of CoBrA. The catalogue serves as an invaluable resource on the museum’s collection and includes detailed entries on twenty-nine artists, texts by renowned experts in the field, and more than 150 colour illustrations.
