“In today’s digital scenario cyber-crime is at its peak and therefore it is a very good initiative by ITM University to come up with such a course. There should be more such courses as it would be beneficial to have trained professionals in cyber security to combat cyber-crimes. In our department we have engineers working with us but we too have to give them a training beforehand. It will be great if we too get already trained professionals in this field,” said Mr. Rajesh Kumar, ACP (Crime), Gurgaon.
The four semester program at ITM will offer subjects on applied cryptography, secure coding and software vulnerabilities, digital forensics, cyber-crime and cyber laws, reverse engineering and malware analysis, forensic laws and ethics, network security, and ethical hacking lab. Prof. Ravindra Ojha, Director, School of Engineering and Technology, ITM University, Gurgaon said that, “In today’s era of Internet usage, there is a dearth of qualified technical professionals, to detect attacks, evaluate security, assess risk and formulate cyber policies. In order to meet these challenges in cyber security, ITM University, Gurgaon, has introduced a course in M.Tech Computer Science with specialization in Cyber Security. ITM University is the first University to do so in Delhi NCR.”
With the directives given by the Department of Electronics & IT, there is a need to create a workforce of 5 lakh professionalsskilled in Cyber Security. ITM’s course will skill the youth in various aspects of the cyber world both theoretically and practically. It will open doors for students willing to get in this field.
As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there has been a jump in cyber-crimes from 966 to 4,356 in the past three years in India. There are 6.2 million Facebook users and 5 million active internet users in Delhi-NCR that accounts for a major reason for the rise of cyber-crimes in Delhi-NCR. There have been numerous cases of cyber-crimes like hacking, obscene publication, unauthorized access, fraud digital signatures etc., which makes it the need of the hour to recruit professionals with specialization to tackle the new methods of harm, like cyberwar, cyberespionage, cyberterrorism, and cybercrime.
