New Delhi, Nov 14, 2014:HealthCare at Home (HCAH), India’s first hi-tech, documented, quality homecare service provider, has launched first-of-its-kind at-home VAC dressing therapy that will bring relief to those, especially diabetics, who are suffering from stubborn wounds and have to face many difficulties, including visiting doctors for dressing when the patient is even unable to walk.
Diabetics with high glucose levels often suffer from wounds and face an unusual delay in healing. The at-home VAC service will particularly be a blessing in disguise for them.
VAC therapy is a procedure to aid wound healing. Complicated wounds are very painful and recovery process in these cases is very slow. Chances are that if not taken care of properly wounds mostly get infected, worsening the situation even more.

HCAH has nurses who are specialized and skilled in VAC dressing. They are registered nurses with minimum five years of experience.
“The VAC therapy works on negative pressure thereby pulling the edges of the wounds closer together. This expedites the healing process as it stimulates both the cells and the blood flow around the area. The VAC pump is like a vacuum or suction machine which is attached via a tube to a sterile foam pad in the wound. The pump draws fluid away from the wound, which is collected in a canister(box) in the pump. The whole process is sterile,” says Dr Gaurav Thukral, Head Medical Services, HCAH.
Under normal dressing, there is a lot of fluid (exudate) soakage and hence a need to change the dressing twice a day. If it is not done properly or by unskilled person, it can contaminate the wound, resulting in infections. Also, the soakage gives the patients a wet feeling, making their condition miserable.
VAC dressing on the other hand allows the person to remain mobile as the canister is light weight in which one kg exudate can easily be collected. It thus does not require the dressing to be changed daily and can be done by the HCAH nurse every 72 hours. If the wound is severe, the situation is professionally managed. VAC therapy is a specialized dressing and is done in a sterile way wherein there is no possibility of cross infection between nurse and the patient.
VAC dressing is equally good for people who have undergone amputations. Diabetics are often the ones who lose their limbs on account of high glucose sugar and their wounds are stubborn. When a person is traumatized on account of losing a limb, “some of the pain can be lessened by letting the problematic area heal faster,” says Dr Thukral.
