  • Discussions include preparing supply chain for Industry 4.0

gePune, India — March 16, 2016 — Reiterating its commitment to partner India in developing a robust and sustainable supply chain ecosystem, GE organized its 4th Supplier’s Conference in Pune inviting more than 500 strategic suppliers of the company in India. In line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, GE has been at the forefront by making India a global sourcing hub. GE’s current scale of sourcing and manufacturing from India is close to USD 2.3 billion annually, of which 50% of the products sourced in India are for GE’s global supply chain. The annual GE Supplier’s Conference is among biggest supplier meets in India where suppliers of GE supporting both India and global businesses get together to discuss the way forward growth strategy and share experiences with GE global leadership. This year, the experts in the conference also discussed the importance of preparing the supply chain for Industry 4.0 and strengthening the India supply chain to meet global needs.

GE has been developing a supplier network to support its manufacturing activities for a number of its businesses such as aviation, transportation, renewables, healthcare, oil & gas and power. The company has been fostering localization by driving ‘In Country For Country’ approach. GE has ensured at least 50% local content in all the products manufactured by GE in India, thus presenting a huge business opportunity. Such a business strategy has also improved the cost efficiencies with shorter lead time for GE customers.

Addressing the conference, Banmali Agrawala, President & CEO, GE South Asia said, “India has been a growth driver for sourcing and supply chain for GE over the last five years and we are confident of seeing the trend continue. With the multi-modal manufacturing facility in Pune, which is one of GE’s top manufacturing facilities globally, we are looking ahead to implement lean and digital connect for all manufacturing processes across sectors in which GE is present today.”

Sharing his perspective, Amit Kumar, Director, Global Supply Chain, GE South Asia said “This conference serves as a key platform to share global and local sourcing strategies with Indian suppliers as well as conveying GE’s compliance and integrity benchmarks. India possesses an advantage in terms of scale and potential that can be leveraged for an industrial company like ours to grow further in the area of supply chain and manufacturing”.
