InnoTrans 2014: Research facilities present hi-tech solutions for the railway sector

InnoTrans_LogoBerlin, 25 August 2014 – Technologically innovative products and manufacturing processes for the rail sector are the result of intensive research and development work. From 23 to 26 September at InnoTrans more than 20 national and international research facilities will be presenting fascinating insights into their research work, which is intended to lead to further improvements in mobility. Their exhibits in Berlin will also feature custom-made and readily marketable hi-tech solutions for the future of rail transport, many of them being presented to the world’s experts for the first time.

Numerous world premieres in Berlin

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is presenting no fewer than four world premieres at InnoTrans. These include an innovative workplace for dispatchers and a fast commuter train, the next generation LINK train, to connect passengers with the high-speed rail network. “Our work is intended to produce trains with a reduced energy consumption, lighter structures, increased safety and less noise”, according to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Wagner, a member of the DLR Energy and Transport Board.

The new laser scanner for the geometrical measurement of rails, sleepers and track bed from the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Metrology IPM is also making its world debut in Berlin. The Italian LIFT Railway and Traffic Laboratory is presenting its dynamic timetable planning tool TRENOPlus to the world’s experts for the first time, and Berlin’s Technical University also has an exhibit that is making its world debut:the Synopsis Tool, which provides a comparative overview of various different and current studies into the future of the European transport industry.
