JIS Group Educational Initiatives organises an interactive session on “Unfolding the secrets of the Mumbai Dabbawala’s Six Sigma” by Dr. Pawan Agarwal at it Guru Nanak Campus
Kolkata, March, 2016: With an effort to raise awareness among tomorrow’s budding professionals and young entrepreneurs about the fact that a robust supply chain was an unavoidable requirement to achieve optimum efficiency while meeting deadlines, JIS Group Educational Initiatives had recently organised an impressive session on the Logistics & Supply Chain Management of Mumbai Dubbawalas, exclusively for it students at its Guru Nanak Campus. This interactive session was presented by internationally acclaimed enigmatic motivational speaker Dr Pawan Agarwal. The occasion was graced by many a distinguished guests from industry as well as from the field of academics such as Sardar Taranjit Singh – MD JIS Group, Sardar Haranjit Singh JIS Group, Mr. S.S.Duttagupta – Director JIS Group Educational Initiatives and many more.
Since the last 25 years, the Dababwalas of Mumbai are employed to carry the home cooked lunches from the residences of working professionals to their offices and back through various modes of transportation. This session with Dr. Agarwal themed Unfolding the secrets of the Mumbai Dabbawala’s ‘Six Sigma’ gave the students and the faculty members alike a rare opportunity to learn about how the Mumbai Dabbawalas have achieved a thoroughbred supply chain system ferrying lunchboxes with 99.99% success rate despite of various challenges faced by them such as less literacy rate among them; unavailability of advanced technology; non-use of high-tech transport system and so on. Dr. Agarwal drew analogies from the dedications of the Mumbai Dabbawalas in terms of customer service. He focussed on the workplace ethics in contemporary times, about almost error-free service, about coping with uncertainties in today’s competitive landscapes, about learning from mistakes; on maintaining strict discipline; about hard work and passion on keeping commitments by providing uninterrupted and on-time service leading to 100% customer satisfaction. He shared various data snippets to highlight how the Dabbawalas manage work-life balance.
Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group said, “It has been said by many a renowned experts and is a known facts that today’s generation can get demotivated very easily – either because they are lacking awareness or they are overambitious but lacking the skill set and enthusiasm required to succeed in their field of work. I believe that today’s seminar will encourage the students and sow the seed of becoming a successful professional as well as a complete human-being. ”
This seminar was a memorable one for JIS Group not only because it was a podium for knowledge sharing but also because of the fact that Dr. Pawal Agarwal felicitated Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group with a book on ‘Masters of Supply Chain Management’ and a miniature ‘dubba’ – one synonymous to Mumbai Dubbawalas.
Dr. Pawan Agarwal, commented that, “It is a greatest honour to get an invitation from prestigious institution such as JIS Group to deliver a lecture the business model of Mumbai Dubbawalas since their case study reflects repository of a knowledge that has come from decades of practical life-experience. The students and faculty present were all praises once the session was over. Some said that they found the accuracy in the delivery business model of Mumbai Dubbawalas very interesting while others commented that they really liked the interactive way Dr. Agarwal introduced the concepts to them. It was like a whole new awakening for all.
