Rishabh, Teach for India fellow hopes to make this event a little more meaningful than just a fun run – By raising funds for the 5th Grade of UPES, where he volunteered for Teach For India (TFI). His stint at UPES had been a great experience with a lot of learning (for the teacher and, hopefully, the students too) This discussion is to highlight that while UPES, a private school for underprivileged children, has a dedicated faculty and a great TFI team, it also faces some serious challenges in terms of the infrastructure and provisions for the students. And these are the challenges which he was trying to address, in a small manner. Through his 2014 run, he hopes to raise Rs 100,000 for the 5th grade which will be deployed towards buying equipment for their laboratory, books for their library, a projector for the classroom and organizing field trips.
In India today, 4% of our children never start school. 58% don’t complete primary schools. And 90% don’t complete school. Teach For India (TFI) exists to prove that no child’s demographics should determine their destiny. The belief is that the end of educational inequity is the freedom for all children to have the opportunity to reach their potential and thereby for India to reach her potential. This project aims to raise funds for the 5th Grade of Umedbhai Patel English School (UPES) in Malad. The funds raised will be deployed towards buying equipment for their laboratory, books for their library, a projector for the classroom and organizing field trips.
The money raised will be through Ketto.
About Ketto:
Ketto is the brain child of the young actor Kunal Kapoor and Varun Sheth who have spent the last 2 years working together to build an online network that will revolutionize the landscape of philanthropy in India. It connects with non profits and companies with the aim of making a difference in the society. It provides the space where you can support the causes that are important to you and connect like minded individuals and organizations working towards positive change.
Ketto is a online fund raising site. This practise is also known as Crowdsourcing often used to subdivide tedious work or to fund-raise startup companies and charities, this process can occur both online and offline. The general concept is to combine the efforts of crowds of volunteers or part-time workers, where each one could contribute a small portion, which adds into a relatively large or significant result. Ketto is different from an ordinary outsourcing since it is a task or problem that is outsourced to an undefined public rather than to a specific, named group.
