messeberlinWith a turnover of 238 million euros, 2015 was the most successful odd-numbered year to date

Berlin, 21 December 2015 – As the financial year draws to a close turnover for the Messe Berlin group of companies is forecast to reach 238 million euros, marking an increase of 27 per cent over the base year 2013 (EUR 188 million).

More than two million visitors from around the world came to find out about the products and services shown at a total of 102 events held by the Messe Berlin group of companies. Around 30,000 exhibitors from Germany and abroad, in all representing over 180 countries, occupied a display area in excess of two million square metres and provided a comprehensive overview of the latest products and services from a wide range of sectors. Close to 30,000 members of the media from all parts of the world received accreditation for the 70 trade fairs and conferences that took place at Berlin ExpoCenter City and Berlin ExpoCenter Airport. Thus, in addition to producing the best business results in the company’s history in an odd-numbered year, in which traditionally there are fewer events, 2015 was also an outstanding year in terms of trade fairs and conferences.

Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH: “The fact that after over a decade of continuous growth there has been a 27 per cent rise in turnover means that this last year was very special. It is something everyone at Messe Berlin can be very proud of and makes us confident that we can meet the challenges of the future.”

In 2015, trade fairs at Messe Berlin such as the International Green Week Berlin, FRUIT LOGISTICA, ITB Berlin and IFA, all globally recognised events, once again proved to be international leaders in their respective sectors and major platforms for exhibiting product innovations and technologies.

Other highlights in 2015 on the capital’s calendar of events included numerous national and international trade fairs and consumer exhibitions and over 50 guest events and conferences.

Rounding off events in 2015 were two new trade fairs which celebrated their launch. Stage|Set|Scenery, the international trade fair and conference for event technology, made its successful debut in June. In October, the arrival of MOTORWORLD Classics Berlin marked the year’s second trade fair debut. This new and exclusive exhibition of classic cars featured an impressive display of horsepower in the historical exhibition halls at Berlin ExpoCenter City.

In 2015 Messe Berlin’s wide-ranging portfolio again included numerous specialist guest events which took place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, ranging from large-scale medical congresses, IT and corporate events to a political party conference.

Industry events representing the medical sector, research and science made up a large part of the guest events, mirroring Berlin’s growing attraction as a business location for industry and science. Messe Berlin continues to be the number one venue for large-scale medical congresses.

Numerous large medical congresses attracted up to 12,000 participants on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. They included the 50th annual conference of the German Diabetes Society, the established Medicine and Health Congress in the Capital, the Congress of the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatic Medicine and Neuropsychiatry (DGPPN), the 28th annual conference of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), and the 27th German Congress for Perinatal Medicine.

In addition, leading IT and telecoms companies met to debate at expert forums such as Net App Insight 2015 and Apps World Germany. Science was not the only topic at the events. Indeed, there was also a certain amount of glamour involved. Following a prolonged absence the GERMAN FILM AWARDS, the show that presents Germany’s most coveted cultural prize, returned to the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. And once again, the who’s who of the national and international music industry gathered in the Palais am Funkturm for the 24th edition of the ECHO 2015 Music Awards.

This highlight on the calendar of IT events is the largest to be organised by this global concern outside the USA. When the nextHacker takes place on 26 and 27 February it promises to be a contest of extremes. Over a period of two days 3,000 of the world’s best up-and-coming developers and programmers will be taking part in a programming contest in the hope of winning handsome prize money.

On 6 April 2016 the shareholders of Daimler AG, the global vehicle manufacturer, will be attending the company’s AGM in the CityCube Berlin.

From 12 to 14 February the well-known guest event Berliner Motorrad Tage (BTM) will be returning to Messe Berlin.
