Abu Dhabi as Global Platform for Energy
Serving as a global platform, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi hosts more than 90 percent of the UAE’s oil reserves. According to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the UAE is the world’s second-largest exporter of petroleum products by value, worth USD 118.08 billion in 2012.
ADNOC, the show’s main sponsor, is one of the world’s top 10 oil and gas companies, producing more than 2.7 million barrels per day. As a result, the UAE is slated to more than triple crude oil production from 30 years ago. In 1984, the UAE produced 1.1 million barrels per day, according to OPEC, while ADNOC projects to increase production to 3.5 million barrels per day by 2017.
In line with the energy production increase, Abu Dhabi’s real GDP from oil is slated to more than triple, from USD 45.6 billion in 2005 to USD 149.7 billion in 2035, according to the economic sustainability plan Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.
