ASSOCIATION OF INDIAN LABORATORIES DEMANDS INDUSTRY STATUS FOR TESTING LABORATORIES
New Delhi April 19 2018 The National Accrediation Board For Laboratories (NABL) , the national accrediation body for testing and calibration of Laboratories in the country is working towards caliberation of medical equipment in the country to bring in performance accuracy.
” Caliberation of medical equipment is the only way to retain the medical equipment’s including Thermometers, Blood pressure measuring devices and MRI and scanners to minimize risks or uncertainty currently being faced by patients in the country due to variancy in results” said Mr Anil Relia , CEO, National Accreditation Board For Laboratories (NABL) while speaking at 2nd Congress of Indian Laboratories organised here today.
“This is especially important as the accuracy provided by such medical equipment is crucial to the overall output, with respect to both quality and profitability. Apart from this, regular calibration of medical equipment is also required to receive the necessary certifications and licenses from regulatory authorities . At present NABL has accrdited about 5000 Labs in India” Mr Relia Said.
“NABL is also working on providing accrdiation to sample collection centres of major labortories in the country so thatthey have proper equipment and resources to collect the samples in proper way and preserve them and transport them in dignified way under controlled conditions ” said Mr Relia.
Dr. D.K. Aswal has joined as the Director, CSIR- National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi, while inaugurating the Congress said ” THE National Physical Laboratoy is working towards setting up primary standards for caliberation of medical equipment in the country .
” The Indian Laboratories ,which are considered at par with any in the world should be given industry status as currently the thousands of labs in India are being treated as trading companies. India has maximum labs in the world and best labs including NASA is being looked after Indian scientists . India has lots of potential for testing foreign samples.and bringing in foreign exchange . But due to customs and other paper complications, India is loosing lots of business’ said Mr N .Kalyan, President , Association of Indian Laboratoris (AOIL) the apex body of Indian laboratories while speaking on the occassion.
“The association also demands single Accrediation agency in India for Laboratories at present about 20 agencies are working in the country” he said .
