June 16, 2014
The Oman Ministry of Tourism and Air Arabia, the Middle East and North Africa’s first and largest low-cost carrier, have announced the launch of three new flights to Muscat from Ras al-Khaimah (RAK), UAE. This will allow Air Arabia to fly thousands of passengers out of Ras al-Khaimah International Airport to Oman’s capital city.
The collaboration developed amidst intensified efforts by the Oman Ministry of Tourism to boost the Sultanate’s status as one of the top tourist destinations in the GCC region. The ministry’s efforts have been paying off as an increasing number of tourists from neighboring states and other countries continue to flock to Oman to visit its famous tourist sites and vacation spots. The Sultanate is popular for its UNESCO-recognized heritage sites, stunning nature, beaches, old-world souqs (markets), forts, ancient settlements, and its world-famous Royal Opera House Muscat. Its southern city of Salalah is also a major tourist destination, especially during the monsoon season, called Khareef.
Salim Al Maamari, Director General, Tourism Promotion Directorate, Ministry of Tourism, Oman, said: “These new flights from RAK will help boost our campaign to attract tourists specifically from the UAE. We invite visitors to come to Oman and experience its rich cultural heritage and distinct tourist sites. Aside from our renowned tourist attractions, foreign visitors may also engage in a host of exciting activities. They can go trekking and rock climbing and turtle, dolphin and bird watching. Everyone is welcomed to come here. Combining traditions and modernity, they can also visit the Sultan Qaboos Mosque and attend a show at the Royal Opera House. ”
Shalini Rajan, Regional Manager UAE, Iran and Iraq, Air Arabia, said: “The collaboration between the ministry and Air Arabia is aimed at providing a better service to passengers who are planning to spend their holidays in Oman. We provide affordable airfares to make it easier and more convenient for tourists from RAK to fly to the Sultanate and enjoy its famous vacation and cultural spots. We are looking forward to serving the passengers from RAK in their future travels. These new flights to Muscat are a welcome addition to our existing operations in different parts of the world.”
Air Arabia is currently flying to over 88 destinations across the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and Europe. It has been recognized for providing comfortable, reliable, and value for money air travel to its millions of passengers around the globe. Muscat, which was named the Second Best City to visit by Lonely Planet in 2012, is one of Air Arabia’s major markets.
Oman Ministry of Tourism has embarked on numerous international campaigns to spur tourism activities and build the Sultanate as a world-class destination for leisure and business travel. The campaigns include involvement in tourism and travel shows and establishment of strategic partnerships with different organizations such as Air Arabia.
