Mumbai, 09th April, 2015:The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Magali Silva Velarde-Álvarez, announced the upcoming XXII Peru Travel Mart (PTM), held from May 15th–17th and co-organized by Promperú and the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), in a show of teamwork between the public and private sector designed to boost the industry. “Peru is one of the most fascinating destinations in South America and the world. “A wide array of luxury services with the highest quality standards complement Peru’s rich historical legacy, making our country a product with great potential for international demand,” explained Velarde-Álvarez, also president of Promperú’s Board of Directors, during the launch ceremony. One of the event’s cornerstones, she revealed, is a business roundtable in which 130 Peruvian exhibitors and 140 international travel buyers will participate. This will be complemented by a series of seminars designed to deepen foreign tour operators’ knowledge of the many tourist destinations in our country and the activities they offer. The training and new tourism products feature birdwatching, the Qhapaq Ñan route (recently recognized by Unesco), Rural Community Tourism, business tourism and gastronomy, helping to promote and strengthen these sectors in the international market. The President of CANATUR, Jorge Jochamowitz, highlighted the presence of new international buyers that see Peru as a new option for tourism. He revealed that buyers from the United States, Russia, India, Italy, France, Bangladesh, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have all confirmed their attendance. Likewise, buyers from Panama, Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile and Colombia will be present for the first time at Peru Travel Mart 2015. This reflects the foreign public’s interest in tourism in Peru. Peru Travel Mart 2015 will provide Peruvian businesspeople an ideal venue to offer their products to tour operators and wholesalers from Peru’s main source markets for tourism and to make business deals, added Minister Silva. At the last PTM, the countries with the strongest participation were Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador and the United States, and the deals made totaled more than 100 million USD, according to CANATUR. An increase of 10% is expected for this year’s PTM. “We are convinced that this event will help promote our image at the international level and increase the number of tourists that visit Peru, which in turn will benefit more Peruvians,” concluded the head of Mincetur.
