RAISING EYE CARE AWARENESS THROUGH WORLD OPTOMETRY DAY AT ITM IHS PANVEL

Panvel: Staff and students from ITM IHS students celebrated World Optometry Day with more than 800 science students across the city to join hands to create awareness about Optometry. The festivities took place in the ITM IHS New Panvel Campus. ITM IHS Department of Optometry is a member of ASCO &  OCI . Infact, ITM  has the largest student membership of ASCO in the Maharashtra State.

The program started with the lighting of the lamp followed by a welcome speech by Dr P V Ramana , Chairman ,ITM Group of institutions .The Chief Guest Dr. Manish Shah, the founder and Medical Director of the Foresight Eye Centre and Glaucoma Clinic in his inspiring and interactive speech,  highlighted the need for students to continiously keep upgrading their skills & also handle patients with maximum care & sensitivity .The students were then awarded degrees of merit on having successfully completed various courses in optometry & MLT .

Prof. RSS Mani VP Institutional Development Said “At ITM , service to the community is a way of life and motivated the students to build their careers with hard work and sincerity and also find the time to serve the underprivilged .”

Students participated in various exciting inter college quiz, AD mad, skit, Poster making, etc. The Competition witnessed a first-hand experience of the creative side of the students. There was a strong messaging sense in these posters by the students. Also a cultural event was performed with high energy levels, the ramp walk with eye Products which was the highlight of the evening.

An Exhibition on various optometry & health related topics which led a career guidance program on health sciences by the industry experts which helped  the student to understand the importance of careers in the optometric field  followed by a Dry holi celebration to avoid the wastage of water .

Many students said “When they look back to the students days at the ITM’s Department of Optometry we will have nothing but the fondest memories of the relationships with the academic staff. The mutual respect between students and staff allowed for an excellent and rewarding learning environment.”

All in all the celebration saw many happy faces not only with colors of HOLI  on them but with a lot of ideas and thoughts behind optometry.
