The district was one of the worst affected, which has displaced more than 4.5 lakh people of the state.

As part of immediate relief efforts a medical camp was organised, for the people affected by the floods in Dhanera town in Banaskantha District of Gujarat. The camp has catered close to 700 patients over three days, starting August 12, 2017.

Dr Vikas Goswami, Head Sustainability, Godrej Industries Limited and Associated Companies said that “We, at Godrej, have always believed in working for the enhancement of the community. Our employees have also been volunteering for community work regularly. It is extremely sad to see the flood situation in Gujarat. We have tried to provide help in the affected area by collaborating with SEEDS and CHD Group for a three day relief camp in Dhanera town in Banaskantha District. As a responsible corporate we would continue provide our support for the community as and when required.”

The camp was organised under the able guidance of Dr. Edmond Fernandes, Founder and CEO, Center for Health and Development (CHD Group) and with support from his health team with experience in relief missions.  Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEEDS) is extending execution support to CHD team and also undertaking assessment for rehabilitation services in the affected schools and villages.  The initiative is being funded by voluntary contribution from employees and matching funds from Godrej Industries Limited and Associate Companies.  Maniben Mehta Hospital in Dhanera is the local partner.

Dr. Edmond Fernandes has been focusing on strengthening public health systems in disasters and suggests a likelihood of primary health care getting affected if not paralysed besides spread of water borne and vector borne diseases and hygiene getting compromised. SEEDS and CHD Group have been engaging in a strategic partnership to build resilient communities across the humanitarian sector. Over the years, as part of their disaster response, Godrej Industries Limited and Associate Companies have supported several initiatives towards disaster relief and rehabilitation.
