24 NOVEMBER 2014 – Sentosa’s Wings of Time, the world’s only permanent night extravaganza set in the sea, has won the Thea Awards for its outstanding achievement as an Event Spectacular. Wings of Time is the only themed attraction in South-east Asia to receive a Thea Award this year, joining an international slate of 16 other themed entertainment projects worldwide being recognized by one of the industry’s most coveted awards.
Presented by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), the international alliance for the creators of compelling places and experiences, the awards are regarded as one of the industry’s highest honours. The results were announced during the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions convention, held last week in Florida, the United States. Award winners for this year’s Thea Awards include projects from USA, France, China and Norway, such as the National 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City.
Wings of Time, which began its first show on 17 June 2014, is a 25-minute, family-friendly spectacular which combines state-of-the-art effects with contemporary story-telling and live audience engagement. With Sentosa’s Siloso Beach as its backdrop, audiences can bask in a splendor of stunning effects including robotic fountains, 3D video mapping, pyrotechnics and fireworks, as they follow the characters on a magical adventure through poetically depicted landscapes. With two shows daily, Wings of Time has already welcomed over 400,000 guests since it opened.
Mr Mike Barclay, CEO, Sentosa Development Corporation said: “We are delighted to receive such a high accolade for the Wings of Time so soon after the attraction opened. It is heartening to see that the unique selling points of the attraction, including its state-of-the-art video mapping and being the world’s only night time light and water show on a beach, has made it stand out among global entertainment giants. This international recognition reinforces Singapore’s growing reputation for developing world-class, award-winning attractions.”
