New Delhi June, 11 2014: Most of us feel that urban outdoor air is considerably dangerous!! City smog, automobile exhaust and even potent industrial wastes being recognized health hazards, are scientifically measured and documented. But several studies done in India and abroad reveal that the Indoor air is much more dangerous than outdoor air. We all know that the Land & Sea breeze replenishes our outdoor air twice a day whereas there is practically no replenishment of fresh air in our indoor, due to limited or no cross ventilations in home, offices or schools. These findings are all the more alarming paired with the fact that no regulations currently exist for indoor air quality, not even in offices, schools or day care facilities!
We eat thrice, drink about 5 to 6 litres of Water, but an adult takes 18000 Litres of AIR per day. Indoor air pollution is arguably one of the most overlooked threats to human health, particularly affecting young children who spend an estimated 90% of their time indoor. Studies released in the past few years demonstrate clearly that poor Indoor Air Quality not only increases asthma symptoms among children but can also be responsible for headaches, fatigue, nausea, restlessness etc among other respiratory diseases.
Children who are building their immune system has to fight these Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) and micro-organisms like pollen, dust mites, fungi, virus etc, present in the atmosphere thus become more prone to allergies. Soft toys, carpets, room fresheners, perfumes produces high levels of Indoor Air Pollution with a range of health-damaging pollutants (VOC’s) & PM2.5, including small soot particles that penetrate deep into the lungs. Cross ventilation also replenishes fresh air in our indoor, but in poorly ventilated home, indoor pollutants can be 100 times higher than acceptable levels.
“Unfortunately we have to go through prolonged courses of chemical antibiotics, which may in the long term, weaken the immune system and exacerbate allergies. The antibiotics work for several weeks only, it at all, and then another virus or allergy comes along to attack the immune system. We feel helpless and continually worried about the next infection that will come along. Considering all the limitations and preventive measures, the good news, if indeed any can be found, is that indoor air pollution is infinitely more controllable than outdoor air pollution. With careful cooperation from educators and businesses, these pollutants can be reduced at school and in our homes.
Several health authorities have recognized that certain types of air purifiers are beneficial in reducing the amount of Particulate Matter 2.5 in the room. The American lung association recommends using an Air Purifier for the bedrooms of asthma sufferers. During my studies of all Air Purification techniques, I have observed that the Sharp Air Purifier equipped with Plasmacluster Ion Technology is superior in terms of performance & reliability. Proper ventilation and allowing direct sunlight in interior spaces are equally important steps towards improving air quality.” said Dr Sitesh Roy, Allergist-Immunologist & Asthma Specialist practicing in Mumbai.
“Sharp Air Purifiers equipped with Plasmacluster Ion Technology create forest fresh air by generating the same level of Positive & Negative Ions found in natural environments like forest, resorts, parks which in the process create Hydroxyl Radical (called Nature’s Detergent) thus killing harmful substances not only form the air but also from the surface and eliminates bad odour. Sharp Plasmacluster Ion Technology has been verified by renowned and independent organizations and is perfect for use at home, offices, in car, doctor chamber, basement, canteen etc.” said Mr Kishalay Ray, Associate Vice President, Marketing at Sharp Business Systems India Limited.
“Air Purifiers equipped with Sharp Plasmacluster Ion Technology are used by more than 5 crore families worldwide and is undoubtedly the best Air Purification System available to mankind. Sharp enjoys 56% market share worldwide and is No 1 in 17 countries. We are expecting the market for Air Purification to reach Rs 2000 crores by 2016. Sharp India plans 25% market share and clock a turnover of Rs 500 Crore from Air Purifier business alone. With this Sharp will provide the second growth driver to the stagnant Consumer Durable business, the first being the game changing Inverter AC’s being manufactured at our Pune factory.” said Mr Sunil K Sinha, Managing Director & CEO –India Region for Sharp Business Systems India Limited
On questions raised by the Media friends to Dr Sitesh Roy that “If we step from clean air homes outside into polluted air, won’t it hit us harder since we are coming from a controlled environment” to which Dr Roy answered “There is no evidence or reports that say that what we inhale strengthens or depreciates our health. If we are exposed to pollution for 24 hours then why should we not allow our body to breathe something fresh for at least 8 hours of the day? Especially when we are sleeping our body and immune system is at rest so we can run the Air Purifiers during night that will give the best result.”
In the end, it is for us to decide whether we want to spend our time going around doctors and path labs or live a joyful life with our friends and families.
