SITA TECHNOLOGY CHOSEN FOR MULTI-MILLION AIRPORT TRANSFORMATION IN FLORIANóPOLIS

Improved passenger experience and efficient operations goal of new operator in Brazil

INDIA – 16 March 2018 – SITA is playing a central role in modernizing Brazil’s Florianópolis-Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN) by providing the technology to make the airport’s passenger services and operations more efficient. Located on the island of Santa Catarina, a famous holiday destination in Brazil, FLN currently handles close to four million passengers a year but will double capacity as part of a major expansion plan.

Flughafen Zürich AG (Zurich Airport) was awarded the 30-year concession for the ‘Floripa Airport’ in March 2017 and started operations January 3rd, 2018. It is investing more than BRL500m (US$160m) to upgrade the airport, including building a new terminal, four times bigger than the current one, which is due to open October 2019. With this investment, FLN’s capacity will double to eight million passengers per year, and new international routes will be added to the existing network.

Tobias Markert, CEO of Floripa Airport, said: “Our aim is to transform Florianópolis Airport into a world-class facility and maximize its growth potential. We can only do that with world-class technology. SITA is enabling us to make the whole airport more efficient by automating important functions, which in turn will allow us to streamline our decision-making and resource allocation. The result will be a better service for airlines, including faster aircraft turnaround and, importantly, a better overall passenger experience.”

SITA is providing its advanced Airport Management solution at Floripa. This gives access to real-time data to better anticipate, plan and control operations, assigning assets and resources more effectively. The integrated solution will include AirportCentral, a single source of operational information and AirportResource Manager for real-time management of equipment and staff. Passengers will also enjoy the benefits of AirportVision®, SITA’s dynamic, media-rich flight information display system. The combination of these world-class technologies will ensure Floripa Airport reaches global standards for efficient operations and excellent passenger services.

Elbson Quadros, SITA Vice President, Latin America, said: “SITA has a very strong track record in airport operations across the world and specifically, in Latin America, as part of Brazil’s airport concession program. By providing airport operators with sophisticated technology SITA allows them to maximize capacity and better use their resources. The strength of our airport management technology is that it enables information to be shared among the various stakeholders in the airport, so everyone can be better informed, anticipate issues, make better decisions and be more efficient.”

As well as Florianópolis, SITA is providing airport management solutions to other Zurich group airports –  Curaçao International Airport and El Dorado International Airport, in Bogota.
