SMS Concast supplies the first electric arc furnace to long steel producer EI Marakby Steel in Giza, Egypt. With a capacity of 350,000 tpy, the furnace broadens EI Marakby’s portfolio and strengthens the company’s competitive position.
The new meltshop will be used to feed EI Marakby’s rebar mill with 130-mm square billets. The mill has a capacity of 240,000 tpy. Ex-cess billet output will be sold to the open market.
The huge lack of power supply in Egypt challenges the production of billets. The electric arc furnace of SMS Concast offers recovery technology that fulfils the most stringent environmental regulations and contributes towards resource efficiency in steel production.
