THE WORLD’S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS 2016 WILL TAKE PLACE IN NEW YORK

worldsbestThe World’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, will be hosting its renowned awards ceremony in New York City in 2016, as part of a global location strategy. Since the list was created in 2002, London has been the host of 14 successful editions of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards, but the organisers now feel the time is right to make the event truly global. As previously announced, the upcoming edition of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, will take place in Mexico City on September 23rd, 2015.  Mexico is famed for its rich, elaborate and varied culinary traditions spanning the entirety of the region. Mexican cuisine was inscribed in 2010 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, owned by William Reed Media, will seek to relocate its distinguished World event, alongside the regional events in Latin America and Asia, every two to three years.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is an annual celebration of global gastronomy that recognises restaurants around the world for their culinary prowess. Not only do those who feature on the list hail from across the globe, but guests who attend the awards ceremony travel far and wide from Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

William Drew, Group Editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, said, “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is a truly global brand. We want to reflect this not just in the restaurants we celebrate but also in the locations of the events themselves. Through the global movement of our events we will continue to unite, discover and celebrate the diverse gastronomic talents and communities across the globe. We are extremely excited to be heading to New York, undoubtedly one of the planet’s most exhilarating dining destinations, to host the 2016 edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards.”

Partners and host nations
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has employed a formal tender process to manage the selection of its partners and host nations for the awards events. The regional spread and location of events within the portfolio has, and will, be guided by global gastronomic trends in different territories, as well operational, practical, brand and business requirements.

As a commercial organisation, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants charges its partners a fee for association with the brand and event activation rights. This fee is not linked to the creation of the list or to the inclusion of any restaurants on it. None of the commercial partners has any involvement with the compilation of the results or awards.

How The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is compiled
The list is created from the votes of The Diners Club® World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of almost 1,000 international leaders in the restaurant community. The Academy comprises 27 separate regions around the world, each of which has 36 members, including a chairperson, and each member can cast seven votes. Of those seven, at least three votes must recognise restaurants outside of the academy member’s own region.

The panel in each region is made up of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded ‘gastronomes’. Members list their choices in order of preference, based on their best restaurant experiences of the previous 18 months. There is no pre-determined check-list of criteria, which hopes to make the list as varied and open as possible.

This year, for the first time, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is working with professional services consultancy Deloitte as its official independent adjudication partner. The adjudication by Deloitte will ensure that the integrity and authenticity of the voting process and the resulting list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2015 are protected.
