Seventy classic cars and motorcycles worth over £14 million, and film and motoring posters worth £200,000 are to go under the hammer in London on December 2nd at Coys ‘True Greats’ auction and could be the ultimate Christmas presents that turn into the best investments ever.

Classic cars have outperformed most investments over the last few years and there has been an upsurge in people buying classic cars, motorcycles and poster art instead of more traditional options.

“Our Christmas ‘True Greats’ sale which is being held in Westminster at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Lindley Hall on December 2nd has always been a great success,” said Managing Partner Chris Routledge, “but this time, like last year, we have seen more and more people talking to us about cars and motorcycles as an investment as well as something that they can drive and enjoy.”

“Classic cars have been a phenomenal investment and this appears to be continuing. Now we are seeing the same with motorcycles and with motoring and film posters. We have received enquiries from all over the world, particularly from investors who have not entered these markets before.”

He added: “We have been astounded at how car and movie posters have continued to grow in value. People love the fact that they can see their investment everyday on their wall at home and that it is not just a piece of paper or a note on a computer.”

COYS have £200,000 worth of posters going under the hammer and because interest has been so great are holding a film poster and art investment evening at the Grange St. Paul’s Hotel between 6pm and 8pm and all are welcome to join. Experts will be on hand to talk about the posters, why they have gone up in value, what makes a good poster, etc.
Location: Grange St. Paul’s Hotel, 10 Godliman St, London EC4V 5AJ

The auction house has a number of interesting cars going under the hammer including a true Santa’s car, a red 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale 1600, estimated at £80,000 to £110,000. This brilliant car will become a great investment to any collector and Alfa Romeo enthusiast as the value of these rare examples is strongly increasing.

The sale will also feature a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, estimated at £950,000 to £1,100,000. This is an exceptional example of one of the most desirable sports-coupes ever made, especially as it boasts a desirable original specification and retains its original engine.

Joining the million pound cars line up are a 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/2 6 C Berlinetta, estimated at £1,000,000 to £1,400,000, and a 1964 Works Prototype Porsche 904/6 Carrera GTP, estimated at £1,100,000 to £1,300,000.

The motorcycle lots include a 1931 Indian 1300 Four Model 402, estimated at £70,000 to £80,000. The 402 is the rarest of all the four cylinder models, it also has the benefit of the factory modifications over the earlier models, making it a truly exceptional and highly collectable example of a very exotic motorcycle.

The poster auction will feature a 1942 US window card poster of Casablanca, estimated at £7,000 to £10,000, an original 1933 King Kong French Grande, offered at £20,000 to £25,000, a 1962 Dr. No UK Quad, at £8,000 to £10,000, and a series of Steve McQueen’s 1971 Le Mans movie posters offered at different prices, ranging from £300 to £1600.
