Much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 has finally been unveiled in the market. It will be competing with Sony Xperia C and Micromax Canvas Turbo. So, let’s check out some of the important features of Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 and compare them with its nearest rivals.
Display: Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes with 5.25 inches high definition TFT screen, having 1280×720 resolution and 280ppi. The Sony Xperia C comes with a 5” TFT screen having 960×540 pixels resolution, Schott scratch resistant glass and 220 ppi. One of the revelations in this segment is the Micromax Canvas Turbo. Specifications of its display include 5” IPS Continuous Grain Silicon, full HD resolution of 1920x1080p, and 441ppi.
Dimensions: The Galaxy Grand 2 has one of the biggest dimensions in the category. The dimension is 146.8 x 75.3 x 8.9 mm and the weight is 163g. However, in case of Micromax Canvas Turbo and Sony Xperia C, the 71×128.3×8.6 mm and 141.5 x 74.15 x 8.88 mm respectively. The Micromax handset weighs 137g and Sony weighs 153 grams.
OS and Processor: Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 runs on an advanced 4.3 Jelly Bean Android operating system and has Quad Core Processor, clocked at a speed of 1.2GHz. In case of Canvas Turbo, the handset runs on v4.2.1 Jelly Bean Android with a 1.5GHz MediaTek Quad Core Processor. Sony Xperia C runs on a 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Android and has a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor.
Memory: When it comes to storage and memory, Micromax surely is the winner among the three handsets, as it has 16GB internal memory and 2GB RAM. However, a comparison of Xperia C and Grand 2 shows that the latter seems to have an edge. Grand 2 comes with 8GB internal storage and 1.5GB RAM with an microSD expandable memory up to 64GB. Sony’s equivalent handset has 4GB ROM, 1GB RAM, with a microSD expandable memory up to 32GB.
Camera: Here too, Turbo is the clear winner as it comes with a 13 mega pixel primary camera having LED Flash and Auto Focus along with a 5 mega pixel frontal camera. Grand 2, on the other hand, comes with 8 mega pixel rear camera having LED Flash and Auto Focus along with 1.9 mega pixel frontal camera. Sony Xperia C has 8MP primary camera with additional features such as Autofocus, Exmor R sensor, LED Flash, and VGA Front camera.
Connectivity: This Samsung handset has wide connectivity options such as 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, micro USB, and GPS +Glonass. Xperia C has similar features. The clear winner in this category is the Micromax Canvas Turbo, which comes with 3G: 11 Mbps HSUPA, 42 Mbps HSDPA, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, Micro USB, and GPS.
Sensors: All the three handsets, discussed here, have various sensors, making them more productive. However, the sensors are different in the different sets. In Grand 2, the sensors are Accelerometer, Gyro, Light, Compass, and Proximity. Sony Xperia C has Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, and Magnetometer. Micromax Canvas Turbo has Gyro, Magnetic Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Motion Sensor, and Light Sensor.
SIM and Battery: All the three smartphones here are dual SIM GSM ones. In Micromax Canvas Turbo, you will get a normal and a micro SIM. If we compare the battery capacity of these three smartphones, we will find that Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 with 2,600mAh battery is the phone that is provided with the most powerful and long running battery. Turbo and Xperia C comes with 2000mAh and 2390mAH batteries respectively.
Price: When it comes to price, all the three handsets hover around Rs. 20,000. Though Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 has been launched in India, its price is still unannounced. As per available sources, its price will be announced in January 2014. Currently, pre-booking is going on without any mention of price although some sources say, this handset will cost less than Rs. 25,000. Micromax Canvas Turbo, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 19,878; in many online shops, they are available at a discounted price of around Rs. 18,099. Sony Xperia C is currently priced at Rs. 20,490 but is available in many online sites at Rs. 18,257.
