- The initiative provided access to safe and clean drinking water to over 35 million beneficiaries in FY17
New Delhi, June 30, 2017: YES BANK, India’s fourth largest private sector bank, has won the ASSOCHAM Water Management Excellence Award 2017 in the ‘Best Community Initiative in Water’ category for its CSR initiative, ‘Livelihood and Water Security’. Since 2014, the initiative, has helped provide access to safe and clean drinking water to more than 50 million beneficiaries, in urban, rural and semi-rural communities across India. The initiative is part of YES BANK’s COP 21 commitment of touching 100 million lives by providing access to safe and clean drinking water by 2020. YES BANK was awarded at the ASSOCHAM National Conference-cum-Awards on Water Management in New Delhi.
Recognizing access to safe and clean drinking water as a key socio-economic challenge, YES Bank launched the ‘Livelihood and Water Security’ initiative as community focussed intervention in 2014. In FY14-15, the Bank deployed over 9,000 household water purification systems with the help of NGO partners in Raigad, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli in Maharashtra. In FY15-16, the Bank installed 150 community water purification systems at key locations including government schools, government hospitals, orphanages, old-age homes and local communities.
Following the Alliances, Relationships & Technology (ART) approach, the Bank joined hands with the Indian Railways to provide safe and clean drinking water at 1,000 ‘D’ and ‘E’ railway stations across India by 2019. By FY17, the Bank in partnership with Konkan Railway and Central Railway had setup water purification systems across 276 ‘D’ and ‘E’ category railway stations in Maharashtra and Goa. The Bank has also installed water ATMs (a unique concept adopted by the Bank to serve clean drinking water), in and around the Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters of Delhi, with the help of the Delhi Jal Board, to provide safe and purified drinking water to underserved communities at an affordable price.
Sharing his thoughts on the win, Mr. Rana Kapoor, MD & CEO, YES BANK Ltd, said, “YES BANK is honoured to receive this award from ASSOCHAM.
